District-wide improvements are coming to bus shelters in Folkestone & Hythe
Bus stops across Folkestone & Hythe are undergoing an upgrade with better protection, improved seating, reinforced windows and digital screens.
The overhaul includes the installation of 37 new bus shelters along routes in Folkestone, Hythe and the Romney Marsh.
Bauer Media Outdoor UK has been contracted to complete the scheme and will oversee maintenance of the bus shelters as well as manage advertising at select locations agreed upon by Folkestone & Hythe District Council.
The revenue generated from shelter adverttising will provide a guaranteed income to the council, which will be reinvested into improving the bus infrastructure network.
This work is separate from the improvements to shelters as part of the Folkestone –A Brighter Future scheme.
Cllr Polly Blakemore, Cabinet Member for Transport, Regulatory Services and Building Control, said: “This enterprising initiative will not only modernise our shelters but also encourage residents and visitors to use our bus services.”
Will Ramage, Managing Director at Bauer Media Outdoor, said: “This partnership with Folkestone & Hythe District Council is a great example of how we can make areal difference at a local level. By delivering modern, accessible shelters and reinvesting advertising revenue back into the community, we’re helping to create better everyday journeys for residents and visitors across the district.”
All new shelters are expected to be installed by the end of this year.
