Sustainability at
Bauer Media Outdoor
Sustainable business practices are not an afterthought at Bauer Media Outdoor, but an integral part of our strategy. We strive to be Carbon Net Zero by 2030 for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and by 2045 also for Scope 3, in accordance with the international GHG protocol.
Every function and team within our organisation makes an active contribution to this. Together, we work towards our common mission: to achieve measurable CO₂ reduction within the outdoor advertising world.
Corporate social responsibility
As a responsible media company, corporate social responsibility is firmly embedded in our way of working. We help advertisers, municipalities, business partners and the outdoor advertising industry achieve their environmental goals. In line with our ambition to become Carbon Net Zero, we continuously invest in technologies that reduce our energy consumption and improve energy efficiency.
We know that our activities can have both positive and negative impacts on people and the environment. That is why we take our role as a partner in public and commercial spaces seriously. Our commitment to responsible outdoor advertising management is in line with our environmental sustainability policy.
Our path to carbon neutral by 2030
Sustainability is our top priority. This is reflected in our campaigns, the design of our objects, the materials used and our logistics processes. The following initiatives help us structurally reduce the ecological impact of outdoor advertising:
- In 2019, we introduced Adshels with sedum roofs. These "green roofs" improve biodiversity, provide natural cooling in cities and capture rainwater.
- All new furniture is equipped with 100 per cent LED lighting and our digital objects are energy-efficient as standard.
- Since 2022, we have been printing all our print materials on recycled FSC paper, using ecological ink. Posters are collected and recycled at the end of each campaign.
- Our sustainable cleaning methods use osmosis or rainwater.
- Employees are encouraged to travel by public transport, thanks in part to our office's location next to a train station. We are also working on the electrification of our fleet.
- We are located in the sustainable Pharos building in Hoofddorp. This innovative building generates its own solar energy via façade panels and is built with circular materials.
This plan is ambitious, but we are able to execute it thanks to the advertising investments of brands that, in addition to their communication goals, contribute to sustainability and a better world where their campaigns are visible.

Collaboration with impactful partners
We actively collaborate with partners who are committed to the environment and society. We provide media space to sustainable initiatives so that they can make their message visible to a wide audience.
In addition, we invest in environmental projects that make a real difference and support non-profit organisations working for a more sustainable world.
Some of the sustainable partners we support:
Certified for sustainable quality
We have been certified to the international standards ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management) since 2015. These certifications highlight our commitment to sustainable operations and ensure that all our environmental measures are structurally and demonstrably complied with.
Our ESG report
We have received the ESG Prime Rating. This recognises our environmental, social and governance efforts, both in Europe and globally. It shows that we deal responsibly with social issues and do business sustainably.
We believe that digital innovation and sustainability go well together. Together with our partners and customers, we are working towards a responsible future.
