Summer is outdoors

Summer is outdoors

This summer, the streets are expected to be teeming with people, all with their wallets full and ready to spend money. This provides a unique opportunity to maximise the impact of your outdoor advertising.

Figures from Statistics Norway indicate that Norwegians will receive approximately NOK 200 billion in holiday pay this summer. Other figures from Statistics Norway also show that July is the year's top month for spending among Norwegians, only beaten by Christmas shopping in December. This is also supported by a survey from Opinion. It confirms that the summer of 2024 will see a significant increase in holiday budgets. The average household plans to spend around NOK 45,900 on summer holidays - an increase of 27 per cent on last year.

In addition to having a full wallet, we're more observant of our surroundings when we're in holiday mode. According to Forbruker og Media, the number of people who notice outdoor advertising every single day increases by almost 20 per cent during the summer holidays.

with so much money in circulation, the potential to influence purchasing decisions through advertising is enormous.

3.3 million Norwegians are planning a holiday in Norway

The pandemic has prompted more Norwegians to stay in the country during their holidays. According to NHO Reiseliv, six out of ten Norwegians will be holidaying in Norway this year, which equates to almost 3.3 million. At the same time, an increase in foreign tourists is expected due to the weak Norwegian krone.

- The summer is full of people moving in the streets and shopping centres. Our advertising surfaces create both brand awareness and influence purchasing decisions. With so many people in the city centre and with a full wallet, it can have a big effect for advertisers," says Nyegaard.

Oslo - summer's hottest destination

Oslo is the city most people plan to visit this summer. A quarter of those holidaying in Norway are going to the capital. According to the City Life Survey from 2023, 77 per cent of total city life in Oslo takes place in the summer. Bauer Media Outdoor's advertising surfaces cover 97 per cent of the capital, which means maximum exposure.

- "We are where people are travelling and the battle for attention is greatest. This results in a very high level of attention without being intrusive or annoying," says Nyegaard.

Avinor expects a big push this summer

With 30 per cent of Norwegians combining domestic and international holidays, many will be travelling between several locations. About half of the population will travel to a European country during their summer holidays, primarily via the country's largest airports. This means that Bauer Media Outdoor's advertising surfaces reach both those travelling domestically, those staying in the cities and those going abroad.

- "With advertising rights at the six largest airports in Norway, we reach the vast majority of international travellers, as well as those flying domestically," says Nyegaard.

A survey conducted by Opinion on behalf of Bauer Media Outdoor shows that as many as eight out of ten people notice advertising at the airport when travelling. As many as half buy the products advertised. This gives a big advantage to advertisers who showcase their message this summer. With the peak travel season and high impact campaigns, this is an invaluable opportunity for brands to make an impact.
