Launching the world's first advertising-funded bicycle parking garage
Bikeloop and Clear Channel (now: Bauer Media Outdoor) have partnered to offer secure bicycle parking at no cost to municipalities. The first advertising-financed bicycle parking solution is now in place at Tjuvholmen in Oslo.
"We can now offer secure bicycle parking that enables Norwegian cities to facilitate increased cycling without burdening their own budgets. The bicycle parking garages protect against both theft and weather, and are an important part of future urban mobility.
- Nils Li, Business Development & Operation Director at Clear Channel
Security and sustainability in focus
With bicycles becoming increasingly expensive, the need for secure parking is greater than ever. Bicycle thefts cost cyclists and insurance companies more than NOK 166 million in 2023, and this cost is increasing by at least 10 per cent annually. Bikeloop and Clear Channel are addressing this by providing enclosed and secure small car parks that protect bikes from both theft and harsh Norwegian weather conditions.
Hedda Heyerdahl, founder of Bikeloop, emphasises the importance of secure bike parking to promote green mobility and sustainable cities. She describes how Bikeloop's solution both ensures the safety of bicycles and supports national environmental goals:
"Bicycles are replacing cars in many Norwegian households, and our solution ensures safe parking for everyone. By combining sustainable infrastructure with inclusive design and good user-friendly solutions, we are promoting cycling as an attractive alternative to the car while helping to achieve national environmental goals. This is the future solution for bicycle parking.
- Hedda Heyerdahl, founder of Bikeloop
Inviting municipalities to join the team
Bikeloop and Clear Channel want to help Norwegian cities reach their climate goals. Advertising-funded bicycle parking garages give cities a unique opportunity to increase bicycle use and reduce car traffic without major investments. Several municipalities have already been invited to take part in this sustainable mobility revolution. Eline Oftedal, Secretary General of the Norwegian Cyclists' Association, sees this as a major step forward.
"This initiative makes it easier and safer to park your bike and encourages more people to choose cycling as a means of transport. The fact that more people are cycling helps to reduce traffic problems and promote green mobility.
- Eline Oftedal, Secretary General of Syklistenes Landsforening
It only takes 30 seconds to park your bike safely
We encourage all cyclists to download the Bikeloop app to pre-book bicycle parking and park in Bikeloop's bicycle centre at Tjuvholmen. This small but innovative car park is designed to meet the needs of all cyclists, including those with disabilities. Here you can see how the smart technology and inclusive design of the future has made it possible to safely park your bike along with your helmet and other belongings in a quick, easy and safe way - and provide space for both large and small bikes.
Clear Channel and Bikeloop invite Norwegian municipalities to take part in this revolution.
together, let's make cycling a safe, sustainable and convenient choice for all citizens. The cycling cities of the future need safe bike centres - and that future starts today.
- Hedda Heyerdahl
